Durable Slate

Post  ChefXenu on Mon Aug 04, 2008 7:10 pm

klaatu150 wrote:I think the durable slate angle is one that we really ought to look into. I think the story of Durable Slate might be worthy of its own thread. As far as I know, Durable Slate is a local roofing company that just so happens to be run by OT's.

Here is the rundown as I could find it, cross referencing the listed executives from the Durable Slate website with the database of completed courses on "Truth about Scientology":

Mike Chan: CEO of Durable Slate. A quick search for Mike Chan reveals that he has completed courses on the Freewinds and has served on a Scientology "Charter Committee" here in Columbus. Mike has also received 6 consecutive "Model of Admin Know-how" awards from the church. Mike is also known as Chiu Hoi Chan (probably his birth name). If you search for Chiu Hoi Chan, you find that Mike was last seen training to be an OT IV. I believe that makes Mike a Xenu believer.

John Chan: Brother of Mike Chan and last shown completing OT IV classes like his brother. Both of these guys have heard the Xenu story and are still in. This means (to me) that they have either lost it or decided to get in on the con. John is currently working on establishing a new Durable Slate office in New Orleans.

Gary Howes: Executive VP of Operations for Durable Slate. Gary is only listed as completing two courses aboard the Freewinds, but if you check out the idealorg's page, his name is listed directly below local Scientology President John Baker's as a contact for people interested in helping the org. We don't know if he's on OT, but I doubt they would let a preclear help administrate the construction of a new Org.

Grant Meloun: Listed alternately as CFO and director of Corporate Affairs, no known scientology affiliation.

Shane Day: VP of Durable Slate, but lamely lists martial arts black belt (probably tae kwon do jr. black belt) as the first line of his corporate bio. No known affiliation with scientology.

Mary Moi: No clear job title. The website says she is responsible for personnel and "operational systems." Presumably some kind of HR position. Mary is only listed as taking one course aboard the freewinds, but she has a cookie-cutter personal website where she states that she has been involved in scientology for at least 13 years (depending on when she wrote the article). Durable Slate hired Mary in 1997, which means she had been in Scientology for at least a couple years when she was hired (This is assuming that she wrote the article this year. It was probably written a couple years ago, which means she could have been in the Church for 5 years or more by the time she was hired.) I point this out only because it would seem to imply that the Church influences hiring decisions at the company. Let's be honest, what are the chances that a scientologist just happened to be the most qualified for the position when they offered it?

Joseph Redd: Durable Slate's IT guy. No known affiliation with scientology, but if Durable Slate is, as I suspect, a profit making arm of the Church, he would probably be the one checking out our forum. Hi Joe! Joe posts as ReddDogg on a few websites and has a facebook if anyone wants to friend him.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

That's all of the upper level management. There are a few misses, but the websites I'm working with don't have 100% of the course completions. Still a much higher density of scientologists (esp higher level/long-term) than chance would suggest.

We know from talking to Durable Slate Employees that they were pressured to take Scientology classes. In fact, the second one we spoke to said that he was asked to take a 50% cut in his hourly wage to pay for classes he would take. Obviously he was not happy about it.

Durable Slate has been listed on the Scientology "patrons" or "honor roll" list since 1993 as far as I could find. A patron is someone who donates at least $40,000 to the church, and someone has to give at least $20,000 to make the honor roll. This also doesn't include any money forked over for bogus "management courses" or donations from employees. For example, Gary Howes personally gave $10,000 or more to the church in 2003. Obviously, his money is his to do with as he pleases, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if Gary received that money from the company with the understanding that it was going straight back to the church.

This is all I've been able to find so far, and it looks like a lot of information is still missing. I think it would be useful to find out how much has flowed from Durable Slate to the church, including personal donations from Durable Slate employees and donations from the business itself.

Hey Chef, thanks for moving my post. I realized when I wrote it that it was kind of an odd place for it. Does anyone here know any current/former employees? We need to talk to them about how much pressure was put on them to take the courses. Also, how much did Scientology come into the business? I know there are laws regarding how much an employer is able to push his religion in the workplace. How close did they come to violating them?

I believe this is relevant to our interests...

http://forums.enturbulation.org/7-general-discussion/new-eeoc-manual-uses-scientology-one-example-religiously-hostile-work-environ-25649/

Tempted to call their HR department after reading up on the manual. Would like to go to DS to apply for a job and maybe leave some small leaflets around clandestinely after filling out an app.... in bathrooms, breakroom... parking lot.

Info pickets might be good too.

Religiously hostile work environment... excellent.

I am cross checking names from the personnel page against the completions database to find out any more info, or on people other than those in the quoted OP.

http://www.durableslate.com/personnel.asp

Here are the main results, of the higher ups, no surprises as they are covered in the OP. Also, on the page above are pictures. Let's see if there is anyone we recognize!

Cocoa Office (Florida)
Field Office
Phone: 800-666-7445

Apparently they have an office in Clearwater too, but I was unable to find any info on it. Cocoa is right next to Cape Canaveral (that famous NASA launching site) on the Atlantic coast, is pretty much due east of Clearwater (which is on the Gulf of Mexico coast), with Orlando/Kissimmee/St. Cloud (the evil mouse), Lakeland/Winterhaven (mostly retirees) and Tampa/St. Petersburg directly between the two cities. You will notice the 800 number is the same as the Indianapolis field office... that number apparently directs to the Columbus office on 4th street according to Google.

ALSO (dongs)
Found out that Durable Group (the parent company) has another company called Durable Restoration and that their website and search engine optimization is by Fast Forward Marketing which ironically enough is based in CLEARWATER, FLORIDA. They list 2 phone numbers at the top and 2 addresses at the bottom of their page...
Tampa: 4532 W. Kennedy Blvd. Suite 288, Tampa, FL 33609 (727)442-9137
Clearwater: 1003 Jeffords Street, Clearwater, Tampa Bay, Florida (813)901-0400

I then had a "hmmmmm" moment and did some further research.

Fast Forward lists as one of their clients Ron Liuzza, DDS of Elmwood Dental Center in Metarie, Louisiana. Here's his TAS report:
http://www.truthaboutscientology.com/stats/by-name/r/ron-liuzza.html

Another client they list is Jay Kamhi, of funtalking.com which sells goofy stuff like Hannah Montana Singing Pens and other novelty items from TV shows and movies. Here's his TAS report:
http://www.truthaboutscientology.com/stats/by-name/j/jay-kamhi.html

Yet another client they list is Icon Orthotics which is run by Robert Levine, DPM, and John T. Feulner, DPM, CO. Robert isn't listed on TAS, but guess what... JOHN IS! Here's his TAS report:
http://www.truthaboutscientology.com/stats/by-name/j/john-t.-feulner.html

I may do more research into this company and it's clients, for they list a few more on their testimonials page. It seems this 'web' of Scilon businesses just keeps getting larger and larger. We need to ACT!

MAN THE HARPOONS!

Chef you may notice their web hosting company also has SIMPSONS cartoons drawn of the web developers. You\'ve gotta know someone inside Simpsons to get a character of yourself drawn with your name. Major scilon web design group.

FYI, Durable Group and Durable Restoration are all the same company. Check their articles of incorporation.
I can has data dump??

There are more than this at Durable, but here are Durable folks that donated to the Ideal Org and how much:
(Note: this is just for the Ideal Org who know how much gets funneled into CoS)
Code:
The Durable Restoration Company $1,000,000 (as of April Newsletter)
Chiu Hoi Chan & Sara Downey   $100,000
Pat & Neal Oxman   $100,000
Ed De Long   $20,000
Gary Howes   $20,000
John Chan   $10,000
Carla & Chris Peery   $10,000
Cherie Downey   $5,000

(1990 corporate listing)

(1998 agent and secretary)

(2007 name trademark for shell company and treasurer)

(too cheap to hire an agent??? doh)

One other note, one of the biggest customers of Durable Restoration is churches. Because of the historic nature of the churches and exotic roofing materials (like slate) they get a lot of business from big, old church buildings (hint, hint).

I just now noticed that "Real Assist Inc" sound very scilon to me. They would only have to call it Touch Assist to be more blatant. I'm sure it's long since dissolved but might be worth digging into.

Oh shit! Looking at the cached version, I do believe it was Gary Howes who assaulted me, trying to get me to hit him...

Also, the ugly blonde who smokes and I spoke with last month and Spylon briefly with this month appears to be Mary Moi, who is in personnel at DS, and specializes in looking pathetic and not being able to shatter suppression in her fulltime staff job downtown

Re: Durable Slate

Post  Whanonstler on Mon Sep 15, 2008 6:05 am

This message went out at just before 6AM from an anonymous (heh) source to the all employee email list at durableslate.com as hinted at by a former worker who is safely out of state:

Hello, Durable Slate. We are Anonymous. We write to both wish you well as individuals, and to provide you with the something that can empower an individual, something that Scientology wishes to hide. Anonymous wishes to provide you with that thing- knowledge.

You might have seen this video that one of us made,

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IbDpIYKv07g

a message primarily aimed at the Scientologists that run your company in a manner inconsistent with decency, human dignity, and your rights. Anonymous also let you as employees know in that video that your rights are being violated and that Anonymous would be happy to take any and all documentation or information you wish to provide. Our only goal is that the law and your rights be observed.

Anonymous would like to provide you with the following link:

http://www.eeoc.gov/policy/docs/religion.html

Which is Section 12: Religious Discrimination of the United State Government's Equal Employment Opportunity Complance Manual.

The Cult of Scientology is used as an example in this document in regards to establishing a Religiously Hostile Work Environment.

From the document above:

'Even unwelcome religiously motivated conduct is not unlawful unless “the victim . . . subjectively perceive[s] the environment to be abusive” and the conduct is “severe or pervasive enough to create an objectively hostile or abusive work environment -- an environment that a reasonable person would find hostile or abusive.”[90] Whether a reasonable person would perceive the conduct as abusive turns on common sense and context, looking at the totality of the circumstances.[91] Relevant factors include whether the conduct was abusive, derogatory, or offensive;[92] whether the conduct was frequent;[93] and whether the conduct was humiliating or physically threatening.[94]

'EXAMPLE 19
Reasonable Person Perceives Conduct To Be Hostile
Although he hired employees of all religions, the Director of “Get Drug Free Today” required employees to sign a statement that they would support the values of the Church of Scientology. He regularly chastised those whose conduct did not conform to those values. A reasonable person would perceive this to be a religiously hostile work environment. [95]

'To “alter the conditions of employment,” conduct need not cause economic or psychological harm.[96] It need not impair work performance, discourage employees from remaining on the job, or impede their advancement.[97] The presence of one or more of those factors would buttress the claim, but is not required. [98]'

Footnote [95] is as follows:

'EEOC v. AKZ Mgmt., Inc., Civil Action No. 07-8356 (S.D.N.Y. consent decree filed Sept. 26, 2007) (settlement of religious harassment and disparate treatment claims on behalf of employees who were pressured by management to practice or conform to Scientology).'

Does that footnote sound familiar? It most likely does from what your current and former co-workers have related to us at protests and at venues such as Gallery Hops or the Community Festival or the Ohio State Fair, all of which were occassions at which Anonymous was present and approached by one of your fellow or former co-workers.

Anonymous knows that people have been told they will not advance if they do not take Scientology courses, Anonymous knows how pay is reduced to pay for them.

Anonymous wishes Durable Slate to prosper and grow but not at the expense of their employees.

What Scientology hides, Anonymous reveals. Scientology is interested in power and deceit. Anonymous is interested only in telling the truth.

Your employer is oppressing you, they are violating your rights and your dignity as a free and capable human being.

From the EEOC site, you can contact the EEOC the following way:

EEOC's representatives are available to assist you between 8:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Eastern Time. An automated system with answers to frequently asked questions is available on a 24-hour basis. You can reach EEOC:

If you are an employee who is a Scientologist but in doubt and worried and wish to leave, Anonymous encourages you to go to the safe site of http://exscn.net/ There are people there who have gone through what you are, and have been where you are. They care and will be glad to help you.

Anonymous wishes to help. Anonymous wishes all people to follow their conscience- but freely. Anonymous is filled with Christians, Athiests, Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Agnostics, Buddhists, and followers of a variety of traditonal and modern nature worships.

Anonymous will next be protesting October 11th and we invite you to join us. Get a mask or disguise to protect yourself against the cult's active and vile practice of Fair Game and stand up for your rights, as a human and as an individual.

If OTs really had power, Anonymous would not exist. If Scientology worked, you would not have received this email. Drive by our protests- you will see Anonymous having fun, dancing, drawing with chalk, sharing pizza and talking to the public. The Scientologists scurry into their org and hunker down and hide, coming out only to smoke and ignore us, despite all their alleged skills as communicators.

The purpose of this email is only to share information. This is the only email that will be sent to this address.

Knowledge and people are, and must be, free.

We are Anonymous. We are Legion.

We do not forgive, we do not forget.

Expect us.

The email was surely deleted from the mail servers as I have received no replies, but I bet not before some people got to read it.

The hits I suddenly got on the video mentioned in the email show it caused MASSIVE enturbulation among the OTs, especially I hope Mike Chan the OT VII, Gary "Li'l Shit" Howe who I think is the one who slammed into me, and the rest of the Scifag upper management.

The salient points are going into a distilled flier. I think we need to hit the parking lots and to also do some sidewalk enturbulation and flyering as they go from building one to building two.

Thank you, guiz, I appreciate the comments.

Viewership spiked again late in the afternoon, 25 hits in 45 minutes. Oh yes, someone or someones are upset. Guess they need to work harder at clearing their reactive minds. Twisted Evil

Watch for a new message, a short, compassionate message to the OTs of Columbus and DS to be released tomorrow morning in time for Staturday. XD

That is a (nearly) indisputable epic win. The only problem is that the recipients probably won't be able to follow any of your links once the e-mail is deleted... No doubt the upper-level management is displeased.

Hai, guiz!

There is a little follow up video dedicated to the OTs and Clears of Durable Slate and all the scifags in Cbus. I hope they enjoy it as much as they enjoyed the mass email to their employees or the first Message to Durable Slate.

Note the reqs for the Executive position. I do believe, and Chef can correct me, the PPA test is to find out if someone is a Potential Trouble Source...

These cultists are such vile little assholes.

IT guys is a scilon. Hubbard mgmt courses, etc. probably gone before employees showed up. I suggest leafleting job sites, luckily they advertise where they are working. Keep an eye out.

Good job finding the archive.org, you are almost going to catch up with my googlefu.

I would never advocate abuse publicly available information, but if you happen to be bored, again nothing wrong with looking at public documents. give this a whirl "Voter File FTP Site"
